Laying the Foundation for a New Creation
Ps 51:10-12 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
To be a New Creation you must have a NEW HEART and a NEW SPIRIT.
Jer. 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Ez. 11:19-20 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. 20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God. (Also in Ez. 36:25-27)
These verses contain a series of prayers that give God the room to make you a new creation.
God uses 5 building blocks to create a new heart – They are 5 prayers.
- Verse 10 – Create in me a Pure Heart
- Verse 10 – Renew a Steadfast Spirit within me.
- Verse 11 - Secure and Holy Spirit - Do not cast me from thy presence
- Verse 12 – Restore to me the Joy of YOUR salvation
- Verse 12 – grant me a Willing Spirit to sustain me.
1. Create in Me a Pure Heart - v. 10
Purity is being Single-Hearted and set apart for God.
So purity is not an issue of cleansing - but creation
David was a person after the heart of God.
To have a PURE HEART - you must be AFTER God alone.
1Cor 6:9 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
If you are not pure you will not expect to become new creations.
2. Renew a Steadfast Spirit within Me - v. 10
David didn’t want to experience victory for only a day, a week or a month. So, he prays for a steadfast spirit within .
The meaning of the Hebrew word (KOON) is a combination of several English thoughts that are essential in becoming a new creation.
A Steadfast Spirit is:
a. Focused or Fixed
- Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: Is. 26:3
- Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross …Heb. 12:2
b. Forward-Moving
There is a great difference between MAINTAINING and SUSTAINING.
- But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead - Phil 3:13
c. Faithful
- And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1Peter 5:10
3. Secure Spirit - v. 11
v. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
This verse exposes David’s heart, insecurities, and fears.
David’s past and sin shaped how he expected God to treat him.
Intimacy with God casts you from Man’s love to God’s love.
You will never become secure until you grasp God’s love.
You need the Spirit of God to be healed of INSECURITY
- Rom 5:5 God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit …
- Romans 8:14-17 …Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive
a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. - Gal. 4:6-7 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls
out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.
God does not love, God is love.
