Joy: Feeling His Pleasure
Ps 51:12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation...
- Chariots of Fire: When I run, I feel God’s pleasure
- There is something within each of us – in which God takes pleasure.
- God created us with the unique capacity to experience His joy and pleasure.
- Sin is Satan’s attempt to kill, steal, and destroy the joy that God has for you.
- Over 500 times the Bible commands JOY (Rejoice, Delight, Be glad, and Be joyful).
Yeshu = salvation; Yeshua = Jesus
You can’t separate salvation and joy from Jesus.
How is the Joy of His Salvation Restored?
1. JOY MUST COME FROM GOD
- God is the Only true source of Joy
- God takes pleasure in you
- Every child needs to know that their heavenly father takes great pleasure in them.
- John 15:11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you...
- John 17:13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
‘My joy’ means His pleasure (for you) fills your heart.
- Ps 16:11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Sin will rob you of God’s joy.
Joy empowers our spirits to say YES to God and NO to Sin Most people know quite well what makes them UNHAPPY –but they have yet to discover what makes them HAPPY. – TF Zimmerman Eph. 4:17-20 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. 20 You, however, did not come to know Christ that way.
2. JOY MUST BE COMPLETED
- John 15:11 - I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
- Col 2:9-10 (NASV) For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete,
“complete” = Pleroma = Whole = Full = overflowing...
Universal problem:
We cannot complete ourselves – so we are always looking for
something to COMPLETE US.
You are complete in Jesus;
Col. 2:6-10 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Him you
have been made complete,
When you are captivated by who you aren’t – You cannot be captivated with WHO GOD IS
.... Brokenness is realizing God is all we have; Hope is realizing God is all we need; and Joy is realizing that God is all we want.3. JOY MUST BE EXPRESSED
- Ps 47:1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.
- Ps 30:11-12: You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.
- Phil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
- 1Th. 5:16-18 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
- HUMAN NATURE is not given to expressing JOY.
