Isa 9:2-6: The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death; a light has dawned …For to us a child is born, to us a son is given...

Isa 59:9-10: We look for light, but all is darkness; we look for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows. Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like men without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.

Isa 60:1-3: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

John 1:4-5: In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Three Characteristics of Spiritual Darkness:

John 8:12 - "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

a. Darkness Confuses Our Surrounding

v. 9 - We look for light, but all is darkness;

Jn 12:35 - "The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going."

Ps 119:105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

Darkness confuses our surroundings and our surroundings confuse our view of God.

b. Darkness Conceals Our Identity

v. 9 ...we look for brightness

2 Cor 4:6: For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

c. Darkness Confines you to Feeling and Emotions

v. 9 - ...feeling our way like men without eyes.
