Deep Cleaning II

Psalm 51:7-8: Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Sin is a stain that cannot be removed
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Ps. 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD” — and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Rom. 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Question of the DAY: Do we go straight from Confession of our Sins to Becoming a New Creation?
Sin Must Be Wholly Cleansed - v. 7,8
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Cleanse me in Hebrew = Chata; UN-SIN Me; De-Sin Me! PURGE ME!
Four levels of sin –
- SINFUL ACTION (transgression)
- SINFUL BEHAVIOR (iniquity)
- HEART/MIND (evil)
- SINFUL NATURE (sin)
For Repentance to be effective – all of these must be addressed – every area must be confronted; cleansed; and created anew.
TO David: Two things Cleanse us: Death and Brokenness
1. DEATH
7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
KEY IS HYSSOP - It brings death to death.
a. Ex. 12:22 - Passover -
b. Lev. 14:6 - Cleansing a Leper
c. Lev 13-14 – Mold/mildew;
d. Num. 19:18 - O.T. Cleansing when one would touch a Dead Body.
Bringing Death to death - turns the power of life on.
Jesus’ Drastic Approach
Matt 5:29-30 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Mark 9:43-48 “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where “‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’
You have to want God more than your life – you have to be willing to die
Romans 6:1-14
Rom. 6:1-13 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
2. BROKENNESS
V. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
