Genealogies are more than a link to the past – it is a picture of who we are.
2Samuel 7:16 "You house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever."
Isaiah said: 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom,.
Matt. 1:17 "Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
Matthew's genealogy included four women who seemed to be "mistakes."
The characters of the genealogy are not on display – God’s Grace is on display!
Our worst sins, rebellion, and behavior have failed to thwart the grace of God.
Tamar: Jesus came for those who have run away from God.
v. 3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Gen 38 - It is a tale of incest, prostitution, and deception.
Gen. 38:1-8 At that time, Judah left his brothers and went down to stay with a man of Adullam named Hirah. 2 There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. He married her and lay with her; 3 she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er. 4 She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan. 5 She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah. It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him. 6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother."
Gen. 38:1 At that time, Judah left his brothers
- levirate marriage – legal responsibility to assist a young widow to have a child.
2. Rahab: God's Grace Radically Changes Our Lives.
v. 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab
Rahab means: pride; insolence; savagery.
Josh 2: 9-11 "I know that the LORD has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 10 We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone's courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.

- Ruth was a Moabite (Gen 19:30-38). Moabites were despised by Israel.
4. Bathsheba: No Sin is Beyond God's Grace.
v. 6 David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife,
