Lent 2010 - Day 24
Power No Grave Can Hold
By Pastor Tony Cervero
Acts 2:24 - But God raised him (Jesus) from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
This may be my favorite Easter Verse. I love what it says. It was impossible for death to hold Jesus down. On the cross, God placed the wages of sin upon Jesus - Death. But death did not have the ability or power to take hold of our Lord's resurrection power.
Lent 2010 - Day 20
In an interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:
People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond:
Lent 2010 - Day 19
HOW TO EXPERIENCE LIFE?
The Bible tells us that we are dead in our sin. So, a valid question is this: If someone is spiritually dead, how does that person experience real life? If we were to listen to the various social engineers around us today in the academic, professional, and political worlds; we would conclude that what people need today are the four E's: Example, Encouragement, Environment, and Education. Our nation is spending billions of dollars on programs to implement these ideas. Let's see how far they get us.
Lent 2010 - Day 17
Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi
When the disciples encountered the risen Christ, their lives changed, their heart changed, their actions changed, and their courage changed. The way they loved changed. And their mission for life changed. And when you ever encounter Him, everything in your life will change. But let me warn you - it may not be what you are expecting. Encountering the risen Savior may compel you to do things you would never do without that seeing Him because when you see the risen Jesus - you cannot help but encounter the Love that carried Jesus to the Cross.
Lent 2010 - Day 15
Where is God When We Suffer?
by Pastor Tony Cervero
As we witness the earthquakes in Chile and Haiti; as we read about the terrible crimes against children and women; as another loved one suffers from cancer - it is so easy to ask: Where is God when we suffer? If God is so powerful and loving - why is there so much suffering? I don't know if I could ever answer the question: Why? But there are many other questions that can be answered. Because Jesus suffered and rose from the dead - our suffering takes on totally new dimensions.
Lent 2010 - Day 14
Spring and the Power of New Life
By Pastor Tony Cervero
Shortly after the armistice of World War I, Dr. Donald Barnhouse visited the battlefields of Belgium. In the first year of the war, the surrounding area around the city of Mons was the scene of the great British retreat. For miles west of the city the roads were lined with artillery, tanks, trucks, and other war material that the enemy had abandoned in their hasty flight.
